Introduction
This is a datatype for Targa (.tga) pictures. It's objective
is to support a wider variety of targa specific features
and bit depths compared to previously available datatypes,
as well as transparency (transparent colors in 8 bit,
Alpha for Grey+Alpha and TrueAlpha modes, subject to
transparency support in picture.datatype).
Please note that this datatype will be detected by the file
suffix ".tga". Sadly, the Targa specification does not include
a header that allows for reasonably robust binary content
detection (exception: an optional footer that many pictures
don't carry).
Installation
At most two files need to be copied for installation: the
datatypes descriptor (TGA) and the datatype class
(TGA.datatype). You might want move existing files like
DEVS:Datatypes/Targa (if present) to a safekeeping place
(e.g. SYS:Storage/Datatypes/). A reboot is usually
required to enable the new datatype.
From CLI/Shell:
Copy Classes/Datatypes/TGA.datatype Sys:Classes/Datatypes/
Copy Devs/Datatypes/TGA Devs:Datatypes/
Troubleshooting
There is a known issue where TGA pictures are not detected
on systems where exe.datatype is installed. Instead, exe.datatype
claims those pictures for itself. The workaround is to
remove "EXE" from DEVS:Datatypes/
CPU and System compatibility
The datatype is an all-in-one binary for any 68k Amiga.
A V43 compatible picture.datatype is required (part of OS3.9,
3.1.4, 3.2, also available in CGX or Picasso96 2.0).
