Short: 3DStars, Stellar Neighbourhood Explorer Author: Bill Eaves & Dan Charrois Uploader: Bill Eaves Type: misc/sci Version: 1.0 Replaces: misc/sci/3d_stars.lha Architecture: ppc-amigaos URL: http://www.digitaluniverse.org.uk/3dstars 3D Stars was originally written for the Mac as part of The Digital Universe 2.x distribution. 3D Stars is a standalone application in its own right and does not require The Digital Universe. The version for Amiga OS4 is released as a separate product that anyone can try, and not just restricted to being part of a commercial package. 3D Stars uses accurate stellar distances data derived from the Hipparcos mission, 3DStars provides you with a way of visualizing how the sky would appear from off-Earth vantage points. In fact, you can view the heavens from positions thousands of light years away from the Sun. Though not provided,if you get hold of a pair of Red/Blue 3D glasses you will optionally be able to view our local galactic region in glorious 3D. This does however rather unscientifically assume that you would have eyes a few light-years apart rather than just a few cm ! 3D Stars is localised for several languages. This also includes its simple online help file which informs the user which keys perform which actions. A more comprehensive manual is provided in PDF format but is in English only. Note: Users of The Digital Universe will automatically have the registered version of 3D Stars enabled, other users can apply via donationware for a keyfile to register their copy of 3D Stars if they so wish.
